That’s the attitude among our home healthcare workers, who give their compassion, strength, and dedication to our patients and mission every day. Their steadfast efforts matter deeply, as homecare plays a more vital role than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For these clinicians, donor support also gives them strength.
During the early wave of the pandemic, physical therapist Cris Sol Cruz volunteered to help create a new process for getting personal protective equipment (PPE) to his teammates out on the road. Cris and his manager coordinated field drop-offs—directly bringing colleagues everything from gowns, booties, masks, and wipes, to office supplies and snack packs. Cris says it was the little extras—made possible by donations—that made people smile.
“It was a privilege to check in with my colleagues and support them in this way,” Cris says. “We could share a human connection when so many people were isolated. This was about more than supporting each other logistically. It was building up all of our spirits.”
“It’s been truly comforting to see the investments the organization has made—with the help of generous donations—to make sure we’ve had the PPE and other supports we need to be safe, keep our patients safe, and do our jobs,” he adds.
During this unprecedented time, Mass General Brigham Home Care never hesitated or paused operations. In fact, we acted quickly to roll out new services to help even more people—including those recovering from COVID-19—receive care and remain safe at home, such as offering in-home blood draws as an alternative to going into a clinic.
It’s all part of a day’s work in carrying out our mission.
At a time when an increasing number of individuals seek safe, independent, and quality care in their home, support for home care services has never been more necessary.
